The United States Census Bureau
The United States Census Bureau is has as a mission to serve "as the leading source of quality data about the nation's people and economy." The Bureau honors privacy, protects confidentiality, shares their expertise globally, and conducts their work openly. The goal of the Bureau is to provide the best mix of timeliness, relevancy, quality, and cost for the data they collect and the services they provide.The Bureau is part of the U.S Department of Commerce.
This website is very usefull, in the mail page there are many tools available. It contains a population finder where just by typing the city/ town, county, zip, or state gives you a population estimate, population trends of three years, Map of Persons per Square Mile: United States by State, and Map of Persons per Square Mile: California by County. Another available tool is "Find An Area Profile with QuickFacts" where by selecting the state gives you percentages from the State in comparison of United States with topics like population estimates, differences of populations between years, ethnicity population, foreign born persons, language other than English spoken at home, education levels, households, person per household, private non-farm employment and retail sales. Another of the tools is the "Economic Indicator" which lets you choose between different indicators. Some of the Indicators are Construction and Spending, Homeownership, Household Income, Poverty and Retail Profits, Trade Balance and New Home Sales. When selecting a topic the link directs to a page with an overview of the topic. Also the page contains links to what is new to the topic, publications, definitions, guidance about the sources, and other several estimates and tools.
Some of the interactive internet tools are the "Censtats" and their applications available include: Census Tract Street Locator, County Business Patterns, Zip Business Patterns, International Trade Data, and more. Other tool is the "Data Ferrer" tha tis a tool and data librarian that searches and retrieves data across federal, state, and local surveys,
