1. Introduction
1.1 Description of mental health
Child and adolescent mental health is one of the main parent concern issues in the modern society. The present fierce competition situation and conscientious social relationships has inevitably affect children's mental health, so how to ensure their mental health is a problem. They are in the important physical and mental development period, along with the psychological growing, thinking way changes, and social experience expansion (Biddle, 2011). Especially, they are beginning to face the pressure of social competition, burden and communication. So they start to meet all kinds of mental confusion and problems in learning, daily life, interpersonal communication. The mental health will affects kid’s intelligence, body, spirit, and moral character. However, rarely less professional helper can give them a hand in the early when they are lying in the highest incidence of mental illness. Study found 50% mental health disorders happen before the age of 14 (Aldridge, 2003). Many kids suffer from social anxiety phobia, communication disorder, internet addiction problem, and obsessive compulsive disorder, and other mental health issues.
1.2 Two cases
For example, there is a kid named Jim at the age of 13 in the community where the writer live, his daily learning are very prominent and hard, his school curriculum result also very well, and go to daily art class and piano class. He is a diligent and litigious child in the community residents’ impression. However, one day of summer, he climbed up to the top floor of the 17th, and did not want to get down, and surrounding community residents were worried, called his parents. Later, they communicated with the child, they found the reason came from the semester final exam, the child’s did not do well in the math exam, and he also did not receive the praise from his parents. He felt sad, setback, and lose confidence. Psychological unhappy and anxiety occurred, so he climbed up to the top floor with setback and even suicidal thoughts, and hoped this action lead to care from their parents. As a result of the pressure, the child did an escape reaction. It shows that the child's mental health affects the parents, and the heart of the community and public.
Another case is one of the writer’s 10 years old nephew, he liked painting since childhood, often used a pencil, but what worried his parents is the child suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder on the pencil, and people do not know when the disorder started. He often asked and said to his parents why the pencil tip is so sharp and eye so round, if stab one eye by pencil tip, what will be happened? He thought and asked this question again and again, and always wanted to try. That scared parents, and all of the pencil were hidden. No longer dare to let the child touch a pencil to draw a picture.
1.3 Analysis of young people’s mental health
“The recognitional dimension of social justice emphasises the need for recognition of different cultures and values, which form the core of their dignity, self esteem and self-respect” (Lynch, 2002). However, the children’s brain and mind are not mature, but have to face the pressure of mature society. Compared with adults, this is not fair for children. So it might be considered an injustice of recognition, they cannot have enough emotional quotient and good values to face stress, emotional issues, complicated factors, and failure. Through the writer’s own experience and media reports, the writer found the children and young people are so poor that is prone to mental health problems, and lack of social concerns. The write prepares to do a program that call action and aims to help these poor children keep better mental health and appeal to target audiences such as the community, parents, teachers, and other youths to care f children’s mental health.
2. Background of kid’s mental health
The recognition of children is imperfect, and the children’s brain and mind are not totally developed. The recognitional injustice emphasises the need for recognition of different cultures and values while kids do not from complete independent minds and values, kids use their world values (Lynch, 2002). So they may lack of control ability and cannot over their own far away from addiction (Kim, 2008). For example, some children cannot control the internet addiction. The kids are powerlessness that lack of authority, status, and sense of self. So some children do not dare to speak and talk with low social communication confidence, resulting in social obstacles. Some children are lack of skills to face failure. Under the pressure, the child will express mental fatigue. In daily life, they also produce complex mental problems such as obsessive compulsive disorder, emotional issues, and puppy love. Therefore, the kids’ mental health problems can occurs in many aspects, the paper will indicate several main issues.
