Time Management
In this paper we will talk about an infamous thing called time management. We all know it, and love to hate it. Do you ever fill like you are just full of energy and you have nothing to do? Well, the answer for most people is, Of course not! Most of the world today runs around in a rush trying to get the next thing done. Trying to hurry home to escape the stresses of the world or just to watch our favorite television show involves time management.
What do we know about time management? As working adults we should know a lot about time management. We all strive to become the best that we can be and some of us trying just to survive through our day to day events. This alone should encourage us to learn some valuable lessons about the subject. Every aspect of our lives depends on it. If we try to plan, organize, and execute our ideas most of the time we can manage it well, but when we go the other route, and jump out there feet first, most of the time we do not do as well. This is not the case in every light, but usually it is the norm. Even as we sit in class trying to better ourselves by improving on our education, we learn that we must manage time to the best of our abilities. This is not done only for school, but for our families for those of us that have children and spouses. A lot of the time, we manage to get everything done and leave ourselves out in the cold when it comes to making time for ourselves. If it is not our job or school we are trying to meet someone else's needs.
Being prepared is a key step in being able to manage time. There are a lot of things that go with being prepared. First, you have to have an idea of what you want to do. Knowing what you are getting into helps a lot because you will be able to focus on specific points that will ensure that you are headed in the right direction of achieving your goal. This sounds pretty easy, but it is a task that a lot of people overlook. You may need material to ensure that you can do your task at hand, so knowing exactly what is going on will definitely help. Getting yourself in a proper place to be able to concentrate and execute what you have in mind is also a very important step. Not having a million and one distraction will allow you to focus and get everything done in a timely manner.
Now that you are well prepared by having an idea of what you are going to do, and the material to do it with, now it is a good time to get organized. Being organized is another key factor in time management. If you have the essential things that you need to perform your tasks, this will save you a world of time and a lot of stress. When you go into something and you have your ideas written down and your materials available and ready to go you will feel like you can accomplish your task quickly, correctly, and efficiently.
Organization is not just having your material in order but also having your ideas in order. Lay out your plan in a fashion that will give you a good flow to what you are trying to do. For example, let's say that you have a paper due, in a week or so, what do you do? You could begin by taking the ideas that you got together when you were preparing and study them. When writing a paper you need an idea, introduction, body and conclusion. Your ideas can be laid out in a manner that makes your paper flow an easy to read. Getting the ideas down on paper in the form of an outline will help you get this task done. The same thing can be applied to your everyday life. Knowing what the day holds and how you are going to go about doing it will help you stay on top of your time management. This will allow to you have more time to do what we all would love to do; rest, relax and release. Even the most hard-nosed workers enjoy time to do some things that are not work related.
Procrastination, procrastination, procrastination, and need I say more. This is a killer of time management. It does not matter if you are prepared, organized, or have the will and the desire to get things done; if you never start you will get nowhere. Procrastination gets most people in the worst way. This is beginning of doing everything else besides what you want or need to be doing. We all are a victim of this every once in a while. There is a great idea looming and you start to think about how you can it done. Preparations are made and materials are gathered for your task. The phones rings and you answer it only taking five minute call. When you get off the phone you start to watch television and say to yourself that you will just watch a few minutes of the game and you will get to you project later. Six hours and two games later you are on the couch, drink in hand, and thinking you will get to your idea next weekend. You have just become a victim of procrastination.
Everyone procrastinates. We put things off because we don't want to do them, or because we have too many other things that need to be done. There are many reasons that we procrastinate but we're only going to talk about a few. We procrastinate because of fear of failure; fear of success; fear of losing autonomy; because we expect ourselves to be perfect; we're too busy; and because it
