What you think is the state of academic writing in the Philippine context?
Academic writing gives you many opportunities like choosing a job. But many students still lacks in skill when it comes to academic writing. Even though they spent a lot of time practicing and they still make errors that is why many students can’t avoid plagiarism.
Many students think that academic writing is hard. Even though students commits errors they are still doing their best in order to achieve their goal. Not all of us Filipinos are fluent in English, that is why many of our fellow Filipinos can’t avoid “Plagiarism”. Plagiarism is not a crime, but you can avoid plagiarism by doing paraphrasing, referencing and also by making your own idea about what you have red. According to my research, plagiarism is not a crime, and according to Philippines, Department of justice(DOJ) it was true that plagiarism is not a crime but plagiarism may conclude as copyright infringement. It may lead you to imprisonment for 3 to 6 years, if prosecuted under law. Make sure your references are all correct, and your academic was not align, it will become non sense even though you put all your effort in doing it. Learn to balance your work so that the reader won’t be confuse and and you need a good grammar. That is why teachers in some schools wants their students to speak English inside their classrooms, so that they can master English as their second language, and at the same time students are learning in their academic writing. As time goes by, students will have less errors in doing their academic writing because they will learn through time.
Students usually encounter academic writing in some subjects like philosophy,chemistry, medicine etc., subjects that are more in English language.
