Today I will be looking more into the career of an Auto Mechanic. Auto Mechanics work on Automobiles and perform repairs and upgrades on them. I find this career choice very interesting as I am going to school for it after I graduate high school. This is a very good career to go into because people will always be going to drive cars so they will continue to need repairs. Some may be wondering why should they become an auto mechanic but a lot of people don’t give it much thought but here are some suggestions why. Being an auto mechanic is a job that is good for people that are hands on and like challenges. If those qualities sound like you then this could be a very good career path for you. Also the requirements to become an auto mechanic are an easier than other career paths. Also this career path could help you directly in your everyday life also. When you are a auto mechanic you will know how to fix small problems that can occur in your car and save yourself money. Also if you have a interest of cars then you could start a project car and it you could build it and do it yourself and save yourself money while making your dream car. Also if you have a interest in gadgets that help you find the most efficient way to do things then this career could also interest you. There are plenty of tools that can help speed jobs up for you to choose from.

To become an auto mechanic you first need to have a high school diploma. After a high school diploma there are a few different options to go through for secondary school. First off you can go to a secondary school and do co-op. If you do co-op then you would have to do work semesters. You could also become an apprentice with a company and get certified through that. When you become an apprentice you must work at least 1500 hours a year and also have to go through 8 weeks of in school training each year for four years. Then there is also normal two year course for auto motive power technician, there is also a one year fast track program that helps to get certified very quickly. One of the only problems with the schooling for becoming a auto mechanic is that it can be very expensive. The schooling itself is not the super expensive part it is buying the tools. Buying the tools can become very expensive as there is a tool set for anyone’s spending limit.

Another reason why being an auto mechanic is a good career choice because it has a very high job placement rate .Auto mechanics have to get certified to work as it will help keep things in the shop safe. When you get your job you have to stay there for usually 2-5 years and then they give you on job training. Then after that you have to complete the certification this basically specializes you to a type of repair and it takes at least two years experience before you can get certified. The money that you make as an auto mechanic is also pretty good if you are very skilled then you could be making over 100,000 dollars a year. The average starting salary for an auto mechanic is quite high too considering it is someone’s first real job. The starting hourly pay for a auto mechanic on average is around twenty dollars a hour, that is almost double minimum wage for a starter job. The average yearly salary of an auto mechanic is 43,000 dollars a year.

Tools are also a very essential part of an auto mechanics job. The tools can dictate the quality of the work that the auto mechanic is able to perform on his tasks. Tools are usually start to get purchased by when you start school and they will be purchased all throughout your career until you find the perfect tools for you. Tools are bought and throughout your career are usually upgraded, this is good because the older tools will still hold quite a bit of value and can be resold to regain some money back. Tools are a mechanics best friend and is plays a key part in an auto mechanics job.
