Organizational Behavior
"Organizational behavior is about people who seek fulfillment in their lives and jobs in a variety of ways and in uncertain times. It is about common themes that now characterize the modern workplace, including high performance, ethical behavior, productivity improvement, technology utilization, product and service quality, workforce diversity, work-life balance, and competitive advantage in a global economy." (Schermerhorn, 2003) "Organizational behavior is also the study of individuals and groups in organizations." (Schermerhorn, 2003) The concepts of organizational behavior are being used in my workplace on a daily basis. I have quarterly meetings with my staff to discuss our company's mission, code of ethics, and code of conduct. I also discuss with my tellers ways to improve their production. I give them ideas and suggestions in order to help them meet and exceed their sales goals. I cross train them to ensure technology utilization. I contact other banks and compare their products and services to ours in order to ensure product and service quality.
Organizational Culture
Organizational Culture is shared beliefs, values, and assumptions that exist in an organization. (www.durham.edu) In my organization the culture is very family oriented. This is due to our vision statement, which states, "treat everyone like a guest" (L.A.N.B.) Every employee is trained to have the same belief and value to ensure the vision and mission statement are met.
Diversity
"Differences among recruits and employees in characteristics such as gender, race, age, religion, cultural background, physical ability, and sexual orientation." (www.durham.edu) Diversity is very important in the workplace. Having a diverse environment can also be used as a sales tool. A few months back I hired a Chinese American woman. As time went on I saw an increased number of Chinese American customers that she had referred to our bank. Hiring a Chinese American woman increased my branches revenue and added to its diverse clientele. In my workplace we have many different types of nationalities. Having a diverse environment helps employees learn to work and get along with other races.
Communication
"The process by which information is exchanged between a sender and a receiver." (www.durham.edu) Communication is the key to success. In the banking industry as well as other industries lack of communication can cause many work related issues. I am always looking for ways to better communicate with my staff and my customers. I also teach my staff to better communicate with each other.
